Farm Life-Praying Mantis

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:14 AM by Administrator

Along with foal watch, the whole family has been busy mowing fields and working with the new colts.  Every year we come across at least one praying mantis and today was the day.  Shawn had a close encounter with a gorgeous lady mantis while mowing.  Don’t worry, we moved the lovely girl to a safe place as we leave several “wild” areas in each pasture for the local wildlife to live unmolested.  Last we saw here she was perched on a log pretending to be a stick!  Here’s a photo

July foals!

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:47 AM by Administrator

July was a very busy month!  We had another 3 foals.

On July 25th the spanish related Arabian mare, Bourbons Caprice, presented us with another outstanding filly by MMM.  STM Sable Star is a black minimal sabino purebred Arabian filly.  She is very minimal sabino with just a star and small belly spot.  Lovely girl has a wonderful exotic head and should be tall like her parents-who are both 16 hands. She is being retained for our breeding program.  Her yearling full sister, STM Marissa is for sale.

July 28th was a wonderful day with the birth of two long awaited foals!  Bourbon Caballero is the sire and since he is subfertile due to age these two are the first foals he’s produced for us out of 2 years of breeding!  Our lovely Back Street grand-daughter, Bayling, gave us a stunning spanish related purebred Arabian colt, STM Bayley.  Although he is not sabino, being bay with one sock, Bayley is everything we were hoping for in this cross-typey and correct!  Spotted Sunshine foaled a lovely chestnut sabino spanish related purebred Arabian filly, STM Tiempo.  Tiempo looks like she will go grey like her sire. Both foals are being retained.

The Vet’s Visit

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:42 PM by Administrator

Our vet was out on Thursday and gelded Lucky Dream Time, finally! We love our vet, Dr. M. as he’s fantastic with the horses but really hard to get to the farm for non-emergencies. He was only 6 hours late for the appointment due to emergencies. The actual gelding took only minutes. Dr. M is very efficient. While Lucky was recovering from the anesthesia, Dr. M floated the teeth of one of our broodmares. Everything went fine. We chatted about minis (he breeds Miniature horse and Paints) while he worked. It was a pleasant and productive visit.
